As a participant in Leadership Rhode Island, we are excited to share an important initiative we are undertaking to give back to our community. Our team has recently partnered with Amenity Aid to combat period poverty right here in Rhode Island.
Leadership Rhode Island is a prominent organization dedicated to convening, educating, and inspiring leaders to make a positive impact across the state. By connecting community-minded individuals, we strive to address pressing local issues. This partnership with Amenity Aid aims to tackle one such critical issue: period poverty.
Amenity Aid is Rhode Island’s leading expert in sourcing and distributing hygiene necessities for organizations that serve those in need. Together, we aim to address period poverty, a significant issue affecting many individuals in our community.
According to a 2021 study by U by Kotex, two in five people have struggled to purchase period products—a 35% increase from the brand’s initial research in 2018. Period poverty disrupts everything from school attendance to the ability to work, forcing many to choose between paying for food or period products.
